Today on More Than Sleep With The Mama Coach:

Growth Charts and the Anxiety That Surrounds Them

Today I really wanted to talk about the World Health Organization Growth Chart (WHOGC) and the anxiety it can cause for many parents.

First, I want to clarify that The Growth Chart is not a diagnostic tool and it doesn’t necessarily mean that your baby is too small! It’s also not meant to be used to compare to other babies because we’re all different. It’s more important to watch your baby over time to make sure they’re staying on their curve.

Remember, the growth chart is only 1 tool to start a discussion between the health practitioner and the parents about how your baby is doing.

When you meet with your practitioner, they will ask you these questions:

Is he eating enough?
What is he eating?
What does his diet look like?
Is your baby happy?
Is she feeding well?
Is she sleeping?

If she’s checking all the boxes then there’s nothing to worry about!

My message to you mama is that it’s only 1 sign in general health. We need to look at the big picture and as nurses we are so happy to help you with this. We have years of experience assessing babies and kids and we can help you figure out any issues such as ensuring they get enough calories to stay on their curve.
