It’s been a minute since I’ve talked about COVID-19.
There have been a few changes and I thought I would talk about them here.
First and foremost, it is so important to talk about this with your healthcare provider, as the facility you are delivering in and your circumstances may be different.
✔️Regarding moms that have covid-19 or are symptomatic, and their babies being separated after birth. This one is a tough one because many sources have different opinions. The underlying message of all of them is that this decision will be made on a case by case basis, so ask your healthcare provider their opinion and what the policy is where you are delivering.
✔️Masks- you will likely notice that all health care providers are wearing masks when working. This is to protect you and them! You likely have also seen the recommendations regarding wearing a mask if going into a public place. Stay home if you can, mamas. But if you need to go out consider a mask.
✔️NICUS- some neonatal units have implemented a one caregiver rule. This means two parents can switch back and forth, they have to choose a designate visitor. This is so hard. Talk to your healthcare provider about this.
✔️We still don’t think it can be passed from mom to babe while still pregnant but we can’t say for sure.
✔️Keep breastfeeding! If you are pregnant, seek resources now to help you be prepared, as supports will look different with faster hospital stays. We are offering a prenatal feeding class, where will will help you build a plan for feeding your sweet babe.
This includes a 15 minute one on one session where we will do a prenatal breastfeeding assessment to help ensure breastfeeding success.
We know this is all so overwhelming and please know we will continue to show up for you. Sending so much love and support your way.
